From Visible Reflections to Clear Shadow Detail: HKC HyperReflect Zero Achieves Ultra-Low SCI Reflectance of 0.5%
2026-09-17

Picture quality depends on more than resolution, brightness, and contrast—it is also affected by the viewing environment. During daytime viewing, outdoor light may be reflected on the screen, while showroom lighting can interfere with shadow detail. Reducing the impact of ambient light has therefore become an important part of improving the real-world viewing experience.
To address this challenge, HKC has introduced HyperReflect Zero, a low-reflection LCD technology. Through the coordinated optimization of five anti-reflection processes, the technology reduces SCI reflectance to as low as 0.5% on 40-inch VA panels and 0.7% on 85-inch VA panels, providing a new technical solution for improving picture quality in brightly lit environments.

Reducing Reflections for Clearer Shadow Detail

When ambient light strikes a screen, the resulting reflections raise the perceived black level, making images appear washed out and reducing the distinction between light and dark areas. Lower reflectance helps minimize interference from external light, making details in darker areas easier to discern.

HyperReflect Zero addresses this issue through coordinated improvements to both the panel surface and its internal structure. While reducing reflectance, the technology also maintains the native high contrast ratio of VA panels (≥8,500:1) and preserves light transmittance, enabling low-reflection performance and picture-quality enhancement to work together.

The figures of 0.5% for the 40-inch panel and 0.7% for the 85-inch panel represent the SCI reflectance of panels in different sizes. SCI, or Specular Component Included, is a measurement method that includes the specular reflection component. These results demonstrate the panels’ low-reflection performance, helping prevent ambient light from compromising picture quality.

Five Coordinated Processes Suppress Reflections from the Panel Interior to the Surface

Unlike conventional solutions that rely solely on a surface coating, HyperReflect Zero incorporates five anti-reflection processes across the panel structure. These extend from the backplane metal layer, in-cell electrodes, and planarization layer to the surface polarizer and optical compensation coating, suppressing reflected light at multiple levels.

 1. Anti-Reflection Surface Design

By optimizing the optical treatment of the screen surface, the design reduces visible reflections and glare caused by ambient light, improving viewing comfort under complex lighting conditions.

2. Backplane Reflection Control

Materials and processes are optimized to address reflections that may originate from metal structures inside the panel, reducing their impact on picture quality at the source.

3. Transparent Functional Layer Optimization

By improving the optical matching between transparent functional layers and adjacent films, the technology reduces reflections at material interfaces and enhances light transmission efficiency.

4. Coordinated Multi-Layer Film Design

The optical properties and structural relationships of multiple internal film layers are optimized together to further reduce interface reflections and enable the layers to work collectively toward the low-reflection objective.

5. Optical Compensation Solution

An optical compensation design further suppresses residual reflections within the panel. Together with the other processes, it forms a multi-layer anti-reflection system extending from the screen surface to the panel interior.

Enhancing the Viewing Experience Across Diverse Applications

For home entertainment, low-reflection performance helps reduce interference from window light and indoor lighting, making shadow detail easier to distinguish when viewing in a bright room. For professional imaging and content creation, reduced reflections provide better viewing conditions for examining fine details and assessing tonal relationships.

In applications such as digital art exhibitions and corporate meeting rooms, screens often operate alongside spotlights or overhead lighting. HyperReflect Zero provides a low-reflection panel option for these environments, helping users focus more clearly on artworks and presentation content.

In complex lighting environments such as medical imaging and automotive displays, HyperReflect Zero can effectively suppress ambient glare, providing dependable visual support for professional diagnosis and safer mobility.

Advancing Industrialization to Turn Material Innovation into Product Experience

HyperReflect Zero is supported by nine invention patents and four utility model patents. Combined with HKC’s existing a-Si TFT and VA LCD panel manufacturing capabilities, these technologies provide a solid foundation for future production. The 40-inch version has completed small-batch trial production and is primarily intended for the professional monitor and automotive markets.

Spanning backplane materials, film-layer matching, and surface coatings, HyperReflect Zero represents more than a breakthrough in technical specifications. It opens up new possibilities for LCD technology in the high-end display market. Looking ahead, HKC will continue to optimize its low-reflection technology and production processes, delivering more high-quality display solutions for home entertainment, professional content creation, and commercial display applications.
