With the improvement of LCD panel requirements for narrow frame, low cost and high penetration, more and more manufacturers pursue the source driver IC reduction technology that replaces the source driver unit with more gate driver units and reduces the number of data lines to reduce the number of IC used in the panel. The source driver IC reduction technology is such a technology, this technology uses more gate driver units instead of the source driver unit, different from the general design of each pixel drive by a gate drive line and a source drive line control, including DRD double gate drive design and TRD triple gate drive design.
DRD dual-gate drive design technology Pixel architecture uses one Data Line for every two Sub pixels. Compared with Normal Pixel architecture, each Sub Pixel uses one Data Line, reducing the number of Data lines by 1/2. It can save half the number of source-ics.
TRD three-gate drive design technology Pixel architecture changes the design mode of the Main Pixel from Normal RGB three primary colors to vertical segmentation, so that the upper and lower three adjacent Sub Pixel share the same Data Line. Compared with the Normal Pixel architecture, one Data Line is used for each Sub Pixel. The number of Data lines is reduced by 1/3 and the number of source-ics can be saved by 2/3.
At present, DRD and TRD technology has been introduced into a number of TV mass production products for application, which can not only provide the same panel size with a variety of technical designs for different customer needs, but also further expand to small and medium-sized size and commercial display applications in the future, further improving the picture quality of the display picture.
